Safeguarding  and Child Protection

Commitment to Child Welfare
The Term Child or Children refers to all young people under the age of 18 years.

The Welfare of Children is everyone’s responsibility and all children and young people have a right to have fun, be safe and be protected from harm.

Child Protection Policy
Shinkai Swimming School has adopted the ASA “Wavepower 2020-23" policy.
These Guidelines and Procedures affect ALL Members of Shinkai Swimming School - the Staff, Swimmers and Parents.

The document can be found at the Swim England website here or in hard copy in the swimming school safeguarding file.

Teachers and Coaches at Shinkai Swimming School are required to support optimum Child Protection practice through completion of appropriate safeguarding training relative to their role.

Shinkai Swimming School has Child Welfare Officers in place who are responsible for implementation of these policies and have the authority to intervene in every matter relative to the swimming school, and to take any action necessary to keep children safe.

The safe guarding of any child associated with Shinkai swimming school is of paramount importance, and the Child Welfare officers are charged with Risk Assessing the swimming school and to act to minimise / eliminate such risks at the earliest opportunity.

The Child Welfare Officers are also responsible for raising awareness of good child protection practice(s) among the swimming school as defined above.

DBS Checks
All Teachers and Poolside staff will be asked, and will be expected, to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service check. This is simply a disclosure application form that is submitted by the swimming school and is renewable every 3 years.

Current Child Welfare Officers
Ryan Neal, Rachel King, Charlotte King and Alexandra McLeod are our current welfare officers and should be contacted in any instances of child safeguarding issues.
